Screening and Evaluation of Antioxidant Activities of Selected Naphthalene Compounds

Abstract: The antioxidant activities of twelve naphthalene compounds containing (E)-1- ((3-iodophenylimino)methyl) naphthalen-2-ol (NAPH1), (E)-1- ((3-bromophenylimino) were investigated in vitro by antioxidant activity (phosphomolybdenum assay), reducing power, H 2 O 2 scavenging activity, metal chelating effects and lipid peroxidation. Scavenging activities of the naphthalen compounds were tested against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl and superoxide anion radicals. Most of them are potent antioxidant, radica… Show more

“…Moreover, compounds with naphthalene ring were found in many earlier reports as potential free radical scavenger. [23][24][25] Interestingly, thiosemicarbazides with strong electron withdrawing substituent such as cyano (-CN) showed lower IC 50 value, whereas corresponding semicarbazides with electron withdrawing substituents found higher IC 50 value. The reason of this phenomenon might be attributed to the thioamide-thioimidic acid tautomerism of synthesized thiosemicarbazides.…”

“…In addition, this research found that these produced hybrids may protect DNA against the toxic agent bleomycin. Ozen et al [72] created a Schiff-base linker in twelve albocarbon-based compounds. Several techniques were used to test these hybrids' free radical scavenging capability, including metal chelating, phosphomolybdenum, reducing power, lipid peroxidation, and H2O2 scavenging activity experiments [59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71].…”
