“…Previous adult studies have demonstrated the efficacy of both patch and scratch tests to confirm allergy to 2-octylcyanocrylate or Dermabond in the event of a suspected reaction to the adhesive 12,22,25 . Scratch patch testing has demonstrated to be the most accurate when testing for Dermabond allergy in comparison to standard patch testing but has not been reported in children 24 . Finally, we studied only 3/16 surgeons in our practice, but they represented almost 50% of our Dermabond cases in 2019.…”

“…Ricciardo et al 13 reported a case series of 6 patients—all with histories of prior exposures to cyanoacrylates as well as 4 with prior surgical exposure to Dermabond—who experienced ACD due to Dermabond application following an orthopedic procedure. Patel & Nixon 24 reported the case of an 18-year-old patient who did not develop a skin reaction at her first exposure to Dermabond during an orthopedic procedure but developed a scratch patch test confirmed ACD, due to Dermabond following a second surgical exposure to the adhesive. The etiology of skin sensitivity following Dermabond application is likely multifactorial, and the ultimate cause is elusive.…”
