Thermomechanical properties of poly(1‐butene) synthesized by Ziegler–Natta catalyzed polymerization of 1‐butene in the presence of nucleating agents

Abstract: Isotactic poly(1-butene)s (iPBs) were synthesized via bulk polymerization of 1-butene in the presence of a series of nucleating agents (NAs). The effects of the NAs on the polymerization, crystallization and mechanical properties of the resultant iPBs were systematically investigated. Both ⊍and ⊎-NAs effectively improve the impact resistance of iPB. Specifically, the addition of ⊎-NAs increases the molecular weight, tensile strength, elastic and flexural moduli of iPB without affecting catalytic activity durin… Show more

“…For example, Mult-920 (a kind of NA with amide structure) was useful to increase the crystallization rate according to the study carried out by Zhao et al [44] and the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics were tested as well. Cui et al [45] investigated the effect of four commercial NAs (WBQ-88, WNA-108, WBG-II and WBG-F) which were added during polymerization on PB. It was found that WBG-II, WBG-F and WNA-108 had the ability to accelerate the rate of crystal transformation while WBQ-88 didn't.…”

“…Similar experimental observations have been reported after addition of ZnIA, 51 MWCNT, 52 or β-NA. 53 Kaszonyiova 29,54 further extended their work on processes of melt-II, III-I and III-II transitions of iPB-1. Most of the studies phenomenally focused on form II melt crystallization kinetics or on the following II-I transition kinetics.…”
