QTL mapping of adult‐plant resistance to stripe rust in a ‘Lumai 21 × Jingshuang 16’ wheat population

Abstract: Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, is a devastating fungal disease in common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) worldwide. Chinese wheat cultivars ‘Lumai 21’ and ‘Jingshuang 16’ show moderate levels of adult‐plant resistance (APR) to stripe rust in the field, and they showed a mean maximum disease severity (MDS) ranging from 24 to 56.7% and 26 to 59%, respectively, across different environments. The aim of this study was to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) for resistance to stripe rust… Show more

“…QYr.wgp-4D, identified in PI 182103, was mapped on the centromeric region of chromosome 4D, and its long arm border (IWA4044; Feng et al, 2018) was mapped >150 Mb proximal to QYr.ucw-4DL, indicating that they do not correspond to the same resistance gene. By contrast, QYr.caas-4DL.2, identified in 'Lumai 21', is likely not Lr67/Yr46, as its tightly linked marker csSNP856 was not polymorphic in this population (Forrest et al, 2014;Ren et al, 2015). By contrast, QYr.caas-4DL.2, identified in 'Lumai 21', is likely not Lr67/Yr46, as its tightly linked marker csSNP856 was not polymorphic in this population (Forrest et al, 2014;Ren et al, 2015).…”

“…The presence of the 1B/1R translocation is high in major wheat regions such as Yellow and Huai River Valleys, thus poor dough quality is expected. Cultivars with outstanding pan bread quality have been developed within the past 20…”

“…More than 400 genotypes including local and introduced cultivars have been screened for adult-plant resistance, and eight QTL conferring multi-resistance to yellow rust, leaf rust and powdery mildew have been identified [12][13][14] . QTL mapping for historical cultivars conferring adult-plant resistance to yellow rust, leaf rust and powdery mildew indicated that the same locus was responsible for the rust and powdery mildew resistance [15][16][17][18][19][20] , with detailed information presented in two reviews [21,22] . Additionally, more than 100 lines with resistance to the three pathogens were developed by integration of molecular marker-assisted selection and conventional breeding.…”
