P‐selectin, E‐selectin, and CD40L over time in chronic hemodialysis patients

Abstract: The aim of this study was to measure P-selectin, E-selectin, and CD-4L levels over time in chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients. Thirty stable patients with end-stage renal failure undergoing chronic HD were included in the study. Blood samples were obtained before HD for measurement of P-selectin, E-selectin, and CD-40L. Measurements were performed at month 0 (T0), 3 (T2), 8 (T3), and 13 (T4). The levels of P-selectin, E-selectin, and CD40L were also analyzed according to the occurrence of cardiovascular diseas… Show more

“…CRF is a chronic condition characterized by inflammation, and hypercoagulability, meaning patients will have increased levels of procoagulant and inflammatory markers . In CRF patients that had undergone HD, a transient decrease in CD40L and CD62P was detected . CD62P, as an indicator of platelet degranulation when expressed on platelet surface, plays a mediate role in the interactions of platelet and leukocyte cells, which can stimulate the production of chemoattractants and growth factors .…”

“…38 In CRF patients that had undergone HD, a transient decrease in CD40L and CD62P was detected. 39 CD62P, as an indicator of platelet degranulation when expressed on platelet surface, plays a mediate role in the interactions of platelet and leukocyte cells, which can stimulate the production of chemoattractants and growth factors. 16 Targeting CD40 enhances the delivery of tumor antigen and simultaneously stimulates the activation of antigen-presenting cells with CD40-CD40L interaction, 40 which induces the maturation and activation of dendritic cells (DC), thereby promoting immune response.…”

“…Serum levels of the adhesion molecule-1 sVCAM-1, sICAM-1, sE-selectin and sP-selectin were assayed using commercially available ELISA Kit, which was performed in the laboratories of clinical and chemical pathology unit, of NRC in Egypt. The serum concentration of sP-selectin was measured with ELISA kit (Booster Biological Technology Co, Fremont, California, USA) with sensitivity less than 5 pg/ml [28] and serum sVCAM-1 was performed (RayBiotech, Inc, Norcross, Georgia, USA) with sensitivity less than 0.3 ng/ ml [29]. Human serum sE-selectin and sICAM-1 was performed by Booster Biological Technology Co, Inc. (Lot EK0501) [30,31].…”

“…In CKD, the most widely studied adhesion molecules associated with inflammation, cardiovascular risk, and mortality are intercellular adhesion molecules-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular adhesion molecules-1 (VCAM-1). Increased levels of these markers predict overall mortality and cardiovascular mortality in patients with CKD not undergoing HD and in patients undergoing HD [10].…”
