LINC00312 represses proliferation and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells by regulation of miR‐21

Abstract: Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators of cancer, including colorectal cancer (CRC). The exact expression pattern of long intergenic noncoding RNA 00312 (LINC00312) in CRC and its mechanisms of action have not been reported. Here, we found that LINC00312 is underexpressed in CRC tissues and cell lines. Functional experiments suggested that LINC00312 suppresses growth, migration and invasion of CRC cells in vitro and attenuates tumour proliferation and metastasis in vivo. Mechanisti… Show more

“…lncRNA 00312 (Gene ID: 29931) attracted our attention based on its highly conserved characteristics and biological function. Previous studies have confirmed that lncRNA 00312 was significantly downregulated in both colorectal and lung cancers [20,21]. Overexpression of lncRNA 00312 can significantly inhibit the invasion and proliferation of lung cancer and colorectal cancer cells.…”

“…Numerous studies have confirmed that lncRNAs play an important role in many biological processes, such as development, cell growth, and tumorigenesis [4,25]. lncRNA 00312 is one of them; former studies have proved that it had the potential to be the biomarker and new drug for liver cancer [16], lung cancer [20], and colorectal cancer [21].…”

“…LINC00312 also has been shown to diminish the aggressiveness of thyroid cancer through suppression of the PI3K/Akt pathway [15]. In addition, LINC00312 was found to inhibit colorectal cancer cells by binding to miR-21, therefore, increasing PTEN [16]. Another study showed that LINC00312 could downregulate cyclin B1 and induce G2-M cell cycle arrest in hepatocellular carcinoma cells, which downregulated cell proliferation and tumor progression in vivo [17].…”

“…Previous studies have indicated that lncRNAs are associated with CRC progression and prognosis. lncRNA BRAF non-coding RNA was demonstrated to promote CRC tumorigenesis and enhance adriamycin resistance, and LINC00312 was indicated to repress CRC cell proliferation and metastasis via miR-21 (18,19). However, the expression pattern and functional roles of a large number of lncRNAs remain undetermined.…”
