Abstract: An urban renewal mission in India, the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) was launched across 63 cities with two objectives: to strengthen infrastructure and address urban poverty. The financial allocation remained in favor of strengthening infrastructure in the race to becoming a global city. Spatial and infrastructural renovation also meant that the poor and their housing were either relocated or lost their place in the process.
