LTP3 contributes to disease susceptibility in Arabidopsis by enhancing abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis

Abstract: Several plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) act positively in plant disease resistance. Here, we show that LTP3 (At5g59320), a pathogen and abscisic acid (ABA)-induced gene, negatively regulates plant immunity in Arabidopsis. The overexpression of LTP3 (LTP3-OX) led to an enhanced susceptibility to virulent bacteria and compromised resistance to avirulent bacteria. On infection of LTP3-OX plants with Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, genes involved in ABA biosynthesis, NCED3 and AAO3, were highly induced, wher… Show more

“…During Pst DC3000 infection, BABA showed a continuous increase over time until reaching 15-fold the control value after 48 hours, 11 whereas in a study by Gao et al 15 . both ABA and SA increased about 25-fold during a period of 36 hours 15 .…”

“…both ABA and SA increased about 25-fold during a period of 36 hours 15 . In addition to P. cucumerina and Pst DC3000 infection, we also tested the levels of BABA after infection with a virulent strain of Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis.…”

“…From the group of LTPs, the most overrepresented LTP4 expressed differentially in all samples, is also strongly induced by ABA and localized to the cell wall. LTP4 is predicted to be a member of PR-14 pathogenesis-related protein and involved in a wide range of abiotic stress responses (Gao et al, 2015). Down-regulation of aquaporins is an important step in water retention.…”
