G eneva Conventions

Abstract: The four Geneva Conventions of 1949 (75 U.N.T.S. 31, 85, 135, & 287) and the two Additional Protocols of 1977 (1125 U.N.T.S. 3 & 609) contain the modern framework for the laws of armed conflict, both international and non‐international, and expand the protections provided for victims of conflict. Before outlining the provisions of the treaties, a brief introduction to some basic distinctions in this area of law are necessary.
