CLIFSOFA scoring system accurately predicts short‐term mortality in acutely decompensated patients with alcoholic cirrhosis: a retrospective analysis

Abstract: CLIF-SOFA enables more accurate prediction of short-term mortality in patients with acutely decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis than other available scoring systems and is useful in predicting both 12-week mortality and the need for mechanical support after liver transplantation.

“…This is a single‐center study, limiting generalizability. This is highlighted by the relatively low predictive value of validated prognostic scores such as MELD, MELD‐Na, and CLIF‐C ACLF, compared with other populations of patients with liver disease . Results likely best apply to hospitalized patients with decompensated cirrhosis and AKI, and further study should be performed across a broader spectrum of patients with advanced liver disease.…”

“…[14] Another study showed that the CLIF-C ACLFs may be more useful for predicting 28-day and 90-day mortality in ACLF cases than CTP, MELD, and MELD-sodium scores in alcohol-related ACLF. [15] Our results in CHB patient with ACLF were similar to that in those previous studies, but the best performance was CLIF-OFs, not CLIF-SOFA or CLIF-C ACLFs.…”

“…912, 42 However, a careful look at trends in eGFR may offer insight into which patients might benefit from TIPS, as kidney function is closely tied to mortality and is a key component of prognostic scores in cirrhosis. 36, 4347 Placement of TIPS has been associated with improvement in kidney function in small studies. 17, 26, 27, 29, 30, 32, 48, 49 We were able to confirm and elaborate on this phenomenon using multivariable analysis.…”
