Scleral Contact Lenses in an Academic Oculoplastics Clinic: Epidemiology and Emerging Considerations

Abstract: Scleral contact lenses may offer a useful alternative to stabilize the ocular surface, improve vision, and minimize the financial impact and morbidity of multiple periocular procedures in select patients with progressive keratopathy of varying etiologies. “…149 Scleral contact lenses have also been found to be beneficial in the management of chronic oGVHD. Providing a protective barrier with the additional continuous bathing of the corneal surface has helped to reduced ocular pain and preserve the corneal integrity (150)(151)(152)(153). There are many commercially available lenses including the BostonSight ®PROSE, Visionary Optics Jupiter Scleral™, EyePrintPRO™, and Alden Optical Zenlens™.…”
