Scion/Rootstock Interaction Studies for Quality Traits in Mango (Mangifera indica L.) Varieties

Abstract: To explore the quality rootstocks which impart better quality fruits in mango varieties, we studied the interactive effect of the scion and rootstock using five mango varieties (Mallika, Amrapali, Dashehari, Pusa Arunima, and Pusa Surya) grafted on three rootstocks (Olour, Kurukkan, and K-5). A total of 25 physico-chemical parameters were studied in the five grafted varieties viz., fruit weight, yield efficiency, fruit per plant, pulp percent, total soluble solids (TSS), acidity, physiological loss in weight (… Show more

“…One of the main causes of avocado fruit loss worldwide is its short postharvest shelf life [40]. Reduced shelf life is one of the major constraints affecting the mango trade [4,41], and it is a direct consequence of improper agronomic practices, nutritional imbalances in trees, and/or inadequate storage methods [4,40]. No marked effect of the application of the biostimulant in preharvest on respiration and ethylene was found in either of the two species.…”

“…Hass stands out worldwide due to its good flavor, nutritional value, long postharvest life, and other outstanding properties [2,3]. Meanwhile, the mango (Mangifera indica L.), is among the most important tropical fruits in the world [4], playing an important role in the economic development of tropical countries [5].…”

“…Techniques for increasing durian production through the use of superior seeds vegetatively such as grafting techniques that combine rootstocks and scions so that combinations and unions are achieved which grow into more potential new plants (Sunandar et al, 2018). Grafting techniques are also able to modify the phenotype of the scion of mango plants such as fruit quality where this is done according to market demand (Shivran et al, 2023). Grafting of the rootstock age of 6, 9, and 18 weeks on breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) can improve the development of commercial breadfruit.…”

“…The mango is the most economically significant fruit crop worldwide, both in tropical and subtropical areas (Hu et al ., 2021; Shivran et al ., 2023). Over 55.38 million metric tonnes of mangoes are thought to be produced worldwide each year, while India is leading mango producer with over 40% (22.35 million tonnes) of the total production from an area of 2.31 million ha (Megha et al ., 2022).…”
