Scintillation Effects and the Spatial Power Spectrum of Scattered Radio Waves in the Ionospheric F Region

Abstract: Differential equation for two-dimensional spectral function of the phase fluctuation is derived using the modify smooth perturbation method. Second order statistical moments of the phase fluctuations are calculated taking into account polarization coefficients of both ordinary and extraordinary waves in the turbulent collision magnetized plasma and the diffraction effects. Analytical and numerical investigations in the ionospheric F region are based on the anisotropic Gaussian and power law spectral functions … Show more

“…Peculiarities of the second order statistical moments of scattered radiation in the collision magnetized plasma have been investigated in [6] using the ray (-optics) approximation. Statistical characteristics and the scintillation level of scattered ordinary and extraordinary waves in the collision magnetized plasma normal to the external magnetic field have been considered in [7][8][9][10] using modified smooth perturbation method. Analytical and numerical calculations were carried out for both the anisotropic Gaussian and power-law spectral functions assumption taking into account diffraction effects.…”

“…Statistical moments of small-amplitude electromagnetic waves scattered by turbulent anisotropic plasma slab is important in many practical applications associated with both natural and laboratory plasmas. Angular power spectrum, scintillation effects and the angle-of-arrival of scattered electromagnetic waves by turbulent anisotropic magnetized ionospheric plasma slab for both power-law and anisotropic Gaussian correlation functions of electron density fluctuations were investigated analytically and numerically in [2][3][4].…”
