scikit-image: Image processing in Python

Abstract: scikit-image is an image processing library that implements algorithms and utilities for use in research, education and industry applications. It is released under the liberal "Modified BSD" open source license, provides a well-documented API in the Python programming language, and is developed by an active, international team of collaborators. In this paper we highlight the advantages of open source to achieve the goals of the scikit-image library, and we showcase several real-world image processing applicati… Show more

“…Matplotlib is used for graph production. Numpy, Scipy, and Scikits-Image are used for computation and analysis (van der Walt et al 2011(van der Walt et al , 2014. Experiments are initiated from a web-interface, 7 min being the minimum time interval between scans (20 min as default) and 96, 384, or 1536 pinned plates being the allowed formats.…”

“…Reflectance data was calculated from sensor radiance using the ATCOR 2/3 software package [33]. After that, the mean structural similarity index measure (MSSIM) from Wang et al [34], implemented in scikit-image [35], was calculated for each corresponding TOAREF/reflectance pair, as shown in Table 1, according to the processing scheme and equations in in the Supplementary Materials. Table 1 clearly shows that, despite ALI, due to the small scene size, the deviations (1-MSSI) are mainly >60%.…”

“…The mean structural similarity index measure (MSSIM) from Wang et al [34], implemented in scikit-image [35], was calculated between each generically resampled multispectral sensor image and the generically resampled HySpex reference. The MSSIM was selected as a quality indicator, because it represents a sensitive image-based measure to detect subtle changes between similar images, such as image noise, contrast and brightness changes, which can be induced by spectral resampling and interpolation.…”

“…Two sets of 3D images were captured, one with deep illumination acquired at an incident angle closer to the critical angle, and other in the TIRF mode. The image processing is handled with scikit-image [27] library in Python. Here we present few additional experimental images to show the AxSET reconstruction.…”
