Scientometric Analysis of Public Health Emergencies: 1994–2020

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to summarize the research hotspots and frontiers in the field of public health emergencies (PHE) between 1994–2020 through the scientometric analysis method. In total, 2247 literature works retrieved from the Web of Science core database were analyzed by CiteSpace software, and the results were displayed in knowledge mapping. The overall characteristics analysis showed that the number of publications and authors in the field of PHE kept an upward trend during the past decades, and … Show more

“…Since the use of EMS coincides with the period when individuals generally seek a solution to an acute health problem within the healthcare system, it can be described as the period when they feel both the need and the importance of the healthcare system the most. [23,24] Health literacy is an indicator of individuals’ ability to choose the information they need to receive on health-related issues and to use the information they need. Considering that individuals act pragmatically in the learning process and tend to get more information they need, EMS history can be described as a situation that increases individuals’ health literacy needs.…”

“…The detection of burst keywords helps to obtain research hotspots and predict future research trends. The top 20 burst words with the strongest citations have been obtained through the CiteSpace Software, as shown in Figure 10, in which "Year" represents the start year of the analysis, spanning between 1997 and 2022 (26 years); "Strength" suggests the intensity of the burst; and the red line indicates the duration of the burst [31].…”

“…Two quantitative CiteSpace metrics are frequently mentioned in the subsequent procedure: intermediary centrality and burst strength [51,52]. Centrality is a value in network analysis that considers the role of the mediator in connecting pairs of nodes in the network [53].…”
