Occurrence of lithodid crabs (Decapoda, Lithodidae) on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Central America

“…One of these, Lithodes wiracocha Haig, 1974 is only known by the holotype from Peru; two other species, L. panamensis Faxon, 1893 and P. diomedeae (Faxon, 1893), are also very rare and poorly illustrated in the literature. The fourth species, P. papillata (Benedict, 1895), is only known from a few specimens from Baja California and Peru, and the present occurrence is the first reported from Central America. Our objective is to illustrate these species, and to provide additional data on their distribution and morphological variation.…”

Northern range extensions and biological notes for three decapods in the eastern North Pacific

Otherwise, the most commonly associated speeies were Coryphaenoides acrolepis (Bean, 1884), Microstomus pacificus (Lockington, 1879), Albatrossia pectoralis (Gilbert, 1892) and Scotoplanes theeli Ohshima, 1915, species that are typical of muddy bottoms in the deeper waters of the continental slope.…”
