Scientific articles available in Open Access (OA) have been found to attract more citations and online attention to the extent that it has become common to speak about OA Altmetrics Advantage. This research investigates how the OA Altmetrics Advantage holds for a specific case of research articles, namely the research outputs from universities in Finland. Furthermore, this research examines disciplinary and platform specific differences in that (dis)advantage. The new methodological approaches developed in this research focus on relative visibility, i.e. how often articles in OA journals receive at least one mention on the investigated online platforms, and relative receptivity, i.e. how frequently articles in OA journals gain mentions in comparison to articles in subscription-based journals. The results show significant disciplinary and platform specific differences in the OA advantage, with articles in OA journals within for instance veterinary sciences, social and economic geography and psychology receiving more citations and attention on social media platforms, while the opposite was found for articles in OA journals within medicine and health sciences. The results strongly support field-and platform-specific considerations when assessing the influence of journal OA status on altmetrics. The new methodological approaches used in this research will serve future comparative research into OA advantage of scientific articles over time and between countries.

The main goal of this paper is to determine the significance of identified university ranking indicators in relation to the overall measurement system of selected global ranking systems. The realisation of the research was divided into two phases. The first phase consists of a systematic overview of the literature that has resulted in the identification of 16 global ranking systems. In the second phase, an empirical analysis of 10 active ranking systems which were selected based on the set criteria. The ranking systems are observed regarding their measurement focus. According to the results of empirical analysis, the research category indicators account for 67.93% of the sum of the weight coefficients in the overall measurement system, followed by the reputation category indicators with 13.5% and the web performance category indicators with 9.37%. The most significant number of global ranking systems dominantly puts its focus in the context of measuring research performance as the crucial indicator of the quality and competitiveness of universities.

“…На возрастание интереса к оптимизации издательских стратегий журналов влияет также запрос со стороны администраторов науки на достижение университетами высоких количественных показателей генерируемого публикационного потока. В исследовании О. Кивинена (O. Kivinen), Й. Хедмана (J. Hedman) и К. Артукка (K. Artukka) [2] показано, что, помимо поддержки авторов своего университета, журналы могут оказывать влияние на результаты оценки вузов с точки зрения уровня их продуктивности, особенно в контексте конкурентной борьбы за высокие места в глобальных рейтингах. Отметим, что в различных рейтингах университетов весовые значения библиометрических показателей оцениваются по-разному: в рейтинге QS World University Rankings (QS) они составляют 20 % от итоговой оценки, тогда как в рейтингах National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU Ranking) и University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) библиометрические индикаторы являются основными и имеют вес 100 %.…”

Проблема выбора и формирования оптимальной издательской стратегии российскими вузами стоит как никогда остро. С учетом повышенного внимания к показателям публикационной результативности организаций как к индикаторам эффективности их исследовательской деятельности редакциям научных журналов вузов предстоит найти баланс между форматом «домашнего» издания и стремлением к расширению географии пула авторов и интернационализации публикационного портфеля. Особенно это касается журналов, уже входящих в международные наукометрические базы данных (МНБД) или планирующих подать заявку на индексирование в МНБД. При этом представляется важным при принятии решения о внесении изменений в редакционную политику журналов учитывать практику ведущих зарубежных вузов. В рамках настоящего исследования была предпринята попытка выявить, насколько активно наиболее известные и престижные университеты США вовлечены в издательскую деятельность, и какой объем публикационного потока они генерируют за счет статей в собственных научных журналах. Сделан вывод об отсутствии единого подхода к организации издательской деятельности в вузах. Опыт американских вузов мог бы быть полезен в российской редакционно-издательской практике.
