The increase in water demand in recent years led to the expansion of research and public policies on the reuse of water, especially greywater (GW). Given the diversity of research in the area, this paper proposes an analysis of the evolution of the area through an objectivity metric. Metadata of 1,524 publications indexed in the Scopus database between 1974 and 2021 were analyzed using the VOSviewer tool, and exponential growth in publications from 2013. Six different spelling variations were found for GW in the database. Despite the highly geographical scattering of academic production, developed countries, who began researching greywater earlier, had more connections and published more papers; except for Israel, which stood up with the highest average of citations per article. While developed countries lead the research area, developing countries are emerging in GW reuse research. These aspects reveal both the dispersion of the research structure development and a trend of intellectual production in GW from developed to developing countries. Also, we noted that countries suffering from water scarcity stood out with the highest activity in paper publishing. Thus, we expect that future research on GW reuse will take place in developing countries that face water scarcity.

In view of the devaluation of Brazilian education and science observed in recent years and considering the importance of Physiology as basic science it is necessary to carry out the general mapping of this area by analyzing the profile of productivity researchers fellows and, therefore, highlight possible discrepancies existing between the different levels of categories. This is an observational, descriptive study. Free access was made to the information contained on National Council for Scientific and Technological Development website for the identification of PQ fellows. We found 193 PQ fellowship in Physiology, 72% of which were located in the Southeast region. We also observed a predominance of male fellowships (54.9%). Regarding the distribution by public and private sectors, 94.8% were in the public service. Among the Institutions where the researchers were located, 6 of them are responsible for 52.4% of the PQ fellowships. When analyzing the total number of PG programs reposted in the Lattes, we found a total of 152 PG programs, of which 46 are in the area of CBII. We conclude that although researchers from all over the Brazilian territory may apply for a Productivity Grant, these are still concentrated in the Southeast region, thus revealing the disparity in distribution. We also highlight the distribution of fellowship by sex, indicating a predominance of males, especially at higher hierarchical levels. Based on our data, the most researchers are linked to only one graduate program and 27.6% of them are allocated to the area of Biological Science II.

Objectives Postgraduate programmes around the world are periodically subjected to research performance evaluation through bibliometric indicators. In this research, we characterized and compared the research performance of 15 universities from Northeastern Brazil, in which 13 were among the top Universities of the Latin America. Methods Specifically, total documents, citations and the h-index of each university were retrieved from the Elsevier Scopus database and were analysed not only for historical scientific achievement but also across the period of the past 6 years (2010–2015). Using these bibliometric indicators, we also investigated the performance of programmes at these Universities that have their papers indexed in the Scopus database under the category of “Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceuticals” for the same period. Results We found that the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) were the most productive institutions, producing 17847 and 15048 documents, respectively. The number of papers published by each of these universities in the past six years represented more than 50% of their entire productivity. With regards to their scientific output in “Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics”, UFC showed the highest number of published documents followed by UFPE and the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). UFC received the highest h-index (with and without self-citations) and number of citations and shared their most cited papers with foreign institutions from the USA and Germany. However, papers from UFC were published in journals with lower impact factors (2.322). Conclusions The present study shows where each of these universities stands and can be helpful in identifying potential collaborators in these areas of knowledge.
