At present communication ability of counselors is more important for students to have a smooth education period in university life. The current study aimed to identify the exploration and reflection on the communication ability of university counselors from China. This study applied a mixed-mode research method. For thesis development, the current study has conducted a pilot study on the measurement scale reliability and tests the measurements of this research. Based on the mixed-mode pilot analysis this study has identified that every variable has strong consistency. Regarding the communication abilities of Chinese counselors, role play, involvement, academic challenges, psychology, and self-efficacy are among the significant findings uncovered by the mixed-mode pilot analysis. Future research and practice in the fields of education, personal development, and decision-making may be influenced by these insights.

With its great contributions to the world’s development, Chinese science education has become a hot issue in the international research community. Science education research trends have already received much attention; however, a few have been down about research trends of science education in China. This study systematically analyzed research articles ( n = 56) by science researchers in the Chinese mainland from five journals, Journal of Research in Science teaching, International Journal of Science Education, Research in Science Education, Science Education, and Science & Education, to reveal research trends in terms of authors’ institutions, research types, methods, and research topics from 2017 to 2021. This study found (a) with a slight increase in paper number, collaborating between domestic and international institutions’ researchers contributed mostly to publications in this period while top 10 domestic institutions were mostly normal universities in Tier-1 cities in China; (b) among the most popular articles—empirical articles, studies conducting correlational design were predominant; (c) topics about students’ learning context, assessment, and nature of science were highlighted in this period and variations of authors’ preference on journals existed. Recommendations for future research on local and international science education are suggested.

The role of science fiction perception on innovator: integrating the theory of planned behavior and social support network theory

PurposeThis study aims to explore the influence of science fiction on innovators and present a comprehensive model using the theory of planned behavior and social support theory to discuss the impact of science fiction on the intention of becoming an innovation worker.Design/methodology/approachPartial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was adopted in this study and responses were obtained from 244 Chinese innovators.FindingsThe results revealed the adequacy of the proposed model and the above-mentioned constructs in explaining innovation intention. Science fiction perception was found to influence the intention of becoming an innovation worker directly. Subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and attitude directly influence the intention of becoming an innovation worker. Additionally, attitude is a mediator between science fiction perception and the intention of becoming an innovation worker. Moreover, social support network moderates the relationship between attitude and intention.Originality/valueThese results shed light on the mechanism by which science fiction influence innovators as well as provide critical managerial implications for policymakers and practitioners.
