School Psychology

Abstract

School psychology is a specialty within psychology that attends to the academic, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of school‐aged individuals. Through consultation and the provision of services to students, parents, educators, and other professionals, school psychology is considered to be a scientist‐practitioner model that is reliant on research to provide guidance regarding evidence‐based practices. This entry examines the historical implications of school psychology development, provides an overview of the profession, and identifies current emphases and future needs within the profession.
