This study is aimed at assessing the willingness to participate in the HIV vaccine trials and the associated factors among people who inject drugs (PWIDs) in Tanzania. Information about the willingness to participate and the associated factors was collected using interviewer-administered questionnaires at the medication treatment for opioid use disorder (MOUD) clinic in Dar es Salaam. Data analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistic 20. The mean age of respondents was 36.7, and the standard deviation (SD) was ±7.2. The majority of respondents (68%) had primary education, and a high proportion of them were single (61.5%). More than one-third (37.9%) shared needles and syringes. Most (87.3%) had more than three sexual partners, and almost half (51.4%) did not use condoms during sexual intercourse with nonregular partners. About 63% had knowledge of HIV transmission while 27% had heard about HIV vaccine trials. Generally, 76% of the respondents expressed willingness to participate in future HIV vaccine trials regardless of prior knowledge of HIV vaccine trials. Willingness to participate in HIV vaccine trials was not associated with education level, people living with, knowledge about HIV transmission, awareness of HIV vaccine trials, sharing of syringe/needles, and number of sexual partners. Only older age (OR=1.6, 95%CI=1.01, 2.6) and condom use (OR=0.49, 95%CI=0.26, 0.97) showed an association with willingness. However, after performing logistic regression with factors at p value ≤ 0.2 to ascertain the other factors on the effects of age, condom use, education level, and sharing of needles/syringes, the results were not statistically significant. Although participants reported a high willingness to participate in hypothetical HIV vaccine trials, no definitive conclusion can be drawn about the associated factors. Further studies with intensive educational programs are needed to investigate the factors on willingness to participate in actual HIV vaccine trials among PWIDs.

One of the major concerns of an educational institution is how to achieve low dropout rate if zeroing it out is not possible. Keeping learners in the school has always been a struggle for educators. This is so because we have a big heart for our students and we presume the role of parents who would give a hundred percent support for the attainment of their children's dreams. This study is a descriptive action research that focuses on the effectiveness of intervention activities and strategies used in combating risk-factors causing high dropout rate through the implementation of Project SAGIP (Save At-Risk Students through Guidance and Intervention Programs). This project was advocated from the author's Project WE CARE for SARDOs which was her first dropout reduction study in the previous school that she served. Project SAGIP however was more intensive as it deemed fit for the school setting and current situation in Dagatan National High School, an integrated JHS-SHS located in Taysan, Batangas which caters to 23 Barangays from the municipalities of Taysan, Lobo, and Batangas City. Specifically, the study intended to identify high-risk factors causing students to dropout from school as per records of class advisers and guidance teachers, and the appropriate intervention activities that had been provided in order to motivate them to continue their studies. Result of the study shows the effectiveness of the interventions and strategies used to solve the problem of the school with regard to high percentage of Students -At-Risk and the increasing number of dropouts, and how the implementation of Project SAGIP also paved way to achieving better results as reflected in our school's Key Performance Indicators (KPI) relative to the decrease in Dropout Rate.

This study utilized the narrative inquiry and phenomenological research design. This inquiry aimed to explore and capture the eidetic life stories and hopes of the Out-of-School Youths. A total of five participants who were selected applying the chain-referral sampling took part in an individual open-ended and in-depth interview. The narratives of the participants were categorized into three. The first category is their life stories during their stay in School. It was noted that four themes emerged in this category, such as (1) struggle to live and to survive, (2) push, pull, and fall out, (3) Bully, bullied: Blended (4) low, lone, and leave. This study also highlighted the life stories of the participants after they dropped out of school. There were two themes generated: (1) Home, Haze, and bored; (2) easy go lucky. Moreover, the study also highlighted the hopes of the participants, and three themes appeared such as (1) hope for education and employment, (2) hope for the revival of their sense of pride and self-esteem, and (3) hope for support and assistance. Likewise, the researchers came up with initiatives to answer the hopes of the participants, to wit: (1) organization of Parent Teachers Association, (2) collaboration with the PSWD, DTI, and TESDA (3) collaborative extension programs between and among the different departments of the university.
