Schizophrenia and oxidative stress from the perspective of bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundA growing number of studies has implicated oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia. The aim of this study was to explore the field of schizophrenia and oxidative stress-related research from a bibliometric perspective.MethodsAll relevant publications on schizophrenia and oxidative stress were obtained from Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database from its inception date to November 8, 2022. VOSviewer software was used to examine co-authorships a… Show more

“…Research on cognitive decline in SCZ has emphasized issues with neuronal development, disrupted neurotransmission, viral infections, autoimmune problems, and oxidative stress (OS) [5][6][7][8][9]. Recently, there has been an increasing focus on the relationship between SCZ and OS [10], which may provide a direction for exploring objectively effective auxiliary diagnostic techniques and methods for clinical evaluation of cognitive function in individuals with SCZ.…”

Recently, there has been an increasing focus on the relationship between SCZ and OS [10], which may provide a direction for exploring objectively effective auxiliary diagnostic techniques and methods for clinical evaluation of cognitive function in individuals with SCZ.OS is a process in which the body generates an excessive amount of highly reactive molecules upon encountering speci c detrimental stimuli. These molecules cannot be completely eliminated by antioxidants, thereby disrupting the delicate balance between oxidation and antioxidant systems [11,12].Under normal circumstances, the body possesses a sophisticated antioxidant defense system that uses endogenous antioxidants to effectively eliminate excess free radicals and safeguard tissues from potential damage.…”

“…It is a program that can generate bibliometric maps, which are mainly used to visualize cooperation and co-citation networks (van Eck and Waltman, 2010 ). In these visualizations, a node represents an item (i.e., an author or keyword), the size of the node reflects its importance (i.e., the frequency of co-authorship or the number of publications) and links represent collaborations (Chen et al, 2023 ).…”

“…Antonia Najas-Garcia et al analyzed the trends of motivation in schizophrenia (Najas-Garcia et al, 2018 ). Other studies have explored the influences of inflammation (Sun et al, 2022 ), oxidative stress (Chen et al, 2023 ) and gut microbiota (Yang et al, 2022 ) in schizophrenia. Only one study provided a comprehensive overview of the use of CBT for schizophrenia (Fei et al, 2021 ).…”

“…While schizophrenia is multifactorial, oxidative stress plays a key role in its pathophysiology ( Bitanihirwe and Woo, 2011 ; Fraguas et al, 2019 ; Lin and Lane, 2019 ; Ermakov et al, 2021 ; Chen et al, 2023 ), declining course, and poor outcome ( Khan et al, 2002 ; Murray et al, 2021 ). To curb excessive oxidative stress, there is a complex set of endogenous antioxidant defense ( Pizzino et al, 2017 ; Murray et al, 2021 ).…”
