“…Its side‐effects include anorexia, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rashes, jaundice, blood dyscrasias and intolerance to alcohol, but there has been no previous report of neuropathy following the use of this drug. Other drugs of the sulphonylurea group have been reported as causing neurological damage, allergic polyneuritis (Domanowsky et al 1958), and fatal encephalomyelitis (Bartelheimer 1957) following treatment with carbutamide, and ‘bilateral axial optic neuritis’ due to tolbutamide (Catros et al 1958).
