Schiff Bases as Important Class of Pharmacological Agents

Abstract: Therapeutics are compounds, which do not always exhibit healing powers. They sometimes prevent or control roles. Many compounds, well known or less are treated as the therapeutic agents. Among them, there is a specific group of molecules named commonly as Schiff bases, chemically imines. Schiff bases are aldehyde-or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by an imine -HN=СН-or azomethine -NHN=СН-group, they are an important class of compounds for new drug development. Schiff base modifica… Show more

“…The magnetic moment values (1.9 B.M.) were discovered to be within the range reported for the d 9 -system containing one unpaired electron [13]. Furthermore, the broad bands centered at 23255cm -1 , 22727cm -1 , and 22988cm -1 should be attributed to charge-transfer transitions for the Co ΙΙ [39], Ni ΙΙ [39] and Cu ΙΙ [13][38] complexes, respectively.…”

“…Schiff bases are organic compounds formed by the condensation reaction of aldehydes or ketones with primary amines 34 . The presence of a lone pair of electrons of the nitrogen atoms’ sp 2 hybridized orbital in the azomethine group is critical for their chemical and biological activities 35 that render these as viable candidates for the anticancer properties of Schiff bases 36 38 and their metal complexes 39 41 .…”

“…Schiff bases are known as an imperative class of carbon-based compounds with extensive biological applications. 9 Synthesis of novel therapeutic imines is now under an important consideration of pharmaceutical researchers for treatment of several illnesses. A number of studies have discussed the biotic actions of imines, together with their herbicidal, anticancer, and antimycotic activities.…”
