Schiff Base Polymers Obtained by Oxidative Polycondensation and Their Co(II), Mn(II) and Ru(III) Complexes: Synthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Activity in Epoxidation of Styrene

Abstract: In this paper, Schiff base monomers having double azomethine groups, N,N -bis(4-hydroxybenzylidene)1, 4-phenylenediamine (M 1 ) and N,N -bis(4-hydroxysalicylidene)1,4-phenylenediamine (M 2 ), were prepared by a common condensation reaction between 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-hydroxysalicylaldehyde with 1,4-phenylenediamine, respectively. The new Schiff base polymers, poly(N,N -bis(4-hydroxybenzylidene)1,4-phenylenediamine) (P 1 ) and poly(N,N -bis(4-hydroxysalicylidene)1,4-phenylenediamine) (P 2 ) were synthes… Show more

“…61−63 Especially, Mn(III) complexes with Schiff bases show high activity in the presence of tBuOOH. 64,65 The rhodium mixed ligand complexes also act as homogeneous catalysts in the oxidation of styrene. 67,68 The major product of this reaction was benzaldehyde with minor amounts of the epoxide, phenyl methyl ketone, 68 and tert-butyl alcohol, 67 when tBuOOH was used as the oxygen source.…”

“…From the thermal degradation values, the synthesized polyphenols are relatively good thermally stable than the previously presented polyphenols derivatives. [34] 3.5.1. Limiting oxygen index Flame retardancy of the polymers is evaluated by van Krevelen's method using char residue data from TGA study.…”

“…Transition metal complexes of polyazomethine polymers, prepared by the reaction of metal salts and polymers containing electron donor groups like –CH=N–, are showed high catalytic activities in various chemical reactions such as oxidation [ 8 ], epoxidation of olefins [ 9,10 ] and esterification reactions. However, heterogeneous catalysts indicate higher catalytic activity [ 11,12 ] and enantioselectivity [ 13 ] in comparison to homogeneous catalysts [ 14 ]. N-butyl acetate is an important compound in the chemical industry (Scheme 1 ).…”
