This work deals with the routing of vehicles for material delivery to assembly lines. In this problem, parts are stored in central depot to be distributed to points of use located along the production line. Production rate in theResumo: Este trabalho trata do problema de roteirização de veículos para o abastecimento de linhas de produção. Nesse problema, peças estão armazenadas em um estoque central e devem ser transferidas para pontos de uso localizados ao longo da linha de produção. O ritmo de fabricação na linha de produção é suposto constante, o que torna periódica a necessidade de reposição das embalagens contendo as peças. Uma frota de rebocadores transporta as embalagens dispostas sobre plataformas com rodas, configurando um comboio. O objetivo do problema é roteirizar a frota de rebocadores, maximizando sua utilização e garantido o atendimento da demanda gerada pela linha de produção. O problema é comum a muitas empresas de manufatura de bens de consumo e possui impacto direto nos custos operacionais. A literatura sobre o tema é escassa e as soluções empregadas na indústria habitualmente se baseiam na experiência prática de operadores ou responsáveis pela movimentação de materiais. Para a solução do problema, é proposta uma heurística baseada em métodos de inserção, aplicada a um caso na indústria automobilística. A comparação entre a solução obtida e aquela formulada por operadores demonstrou ganho no número de rotas.

Qiu et al (2002) reported some drawbacks of improper scheduling of AGVs in FMS namely AGVs collisions -when one or more AGV cruise on the same track at the same time then a collision between AGVs may happen. Congestion -when too many AGVs cruise on same track then chances of congestion rise up further lowering the throughput of the system.…”

The real-time scheduling of automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) in flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is observed to be highly critical and complex due to the dynamic variations of production requirements such as an imbalance of AGVs loading, the high travel time of AGVs, variation in jobs, and AGV routes to name a few. The output from FMS considerably depends on the efficient scheduling of AGVs in the FMS. The multi-objective scheduling decisions for AGVs by nature inspired algorithms yield a considerable reduction throughput time in the FMS. In this paper, investigations are carried out for the multi-objective scheduling of AGVs to simultaneously balance the workload of AGVs and to minimize the travel time of AGVs in the FMS. The multi-objective scheduling is carried out by the application of nature-inspired grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO) to yield a balanced work-load for AGVs and also to minimize the travel time of AGVs simultaneously in the FMS. The output yield of the GWO algorithm is compared with the results of benchmark problems from the literature. The resulting yield of the proposed algorithm for the multi-objective scheduling of AGVs is observed to outperform the existing algorithms for scheduling of AGVs.

This paper describes a Grid-like Material Transportation Network (GMTN) in which several heterogeneous means of transportation (Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), hoists, lifts, etc.) interact with each other via common shared workstations to provide a variety of demand-responsive material handling operations. Different material handling transport modes provide movement of workpieces between workstations along their manufacturing routes in the GMTN and they can be seen as processes realized with synergic utilization of various local periodically acting unimodal processes. The main contribution of this research is the solution of a constraint satisfaction problem addressing AGVs fleet match-up scheduling subject to GMTN and fuzzy operation time constraints. In the presented case both production rate (production takt) and operations execution time are described by imprecise (fuzzy) data. In other words, the research's objective concerns assessing grid-like networks of periodically acting local transportation modes from the perspective of possible mass-customized oriented requirements imposed on scheduling of multimodal flows of jobs assigned to certain technological routes passing through common shared workstations.
