Scenario Development Process at the Vertical Motion Simulator

Abstract: There has been a significant effort within the simulation community to standardize many aspects of flight simulation. More recently, an effort has begun to develop a formal scenario definition language for aviation. A working group within the AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee has been created to develop a standard aviation scenario definition language, though much of the initial effort has been tailored to training simulators. Research and development (R&D) simulators, like the Vertical Motion S… Show more

“…Addressing this problem the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee (MSTC) recently launched a working group towards the development of a standard simulation scenario definition language for the aviation domain, namely AIAA Simulation Scenario Development Working Group (AIAA SSDWG). Within this context, the current practices, problems and opportunities in scenario development [10][11][12][13], the requirements of a standard simulation scenario definition language [14][15][16] and possible technical solutions [17][18][19][20] are currently being discussed.…”

“…Reardon and Beard (7) attempted to use a simple quantitative method for the appraisal of the motion filters for the completion of rotorcraft Mission Task Elements (MTEs). Data from the simulator model, flown without motion were recorded, and optimisation was accomplished through the minimisation of the Root Mean Square (RMS) error between the aircraft and the motion system response over the entire run.…”
