Scavenging Capacity of Extracts of Arrabidaea chica Leaves from the Amazonia against ROS and RNS of Physiological and Food Relevance

Abstract: Arrabidaea chica, a medicinal plant found in the Amazon rainforest, is a promising source of bioactive compounds which can be used to inhibit oxidative damage in both food and biological systems. In this study, the in vitro scavenging capacity of characterized extracts of A. chica leaves, obtained with green solvents of different polarities [water, ethanol, and ethanol/water (1:1, v/v)] through ultrasound-assisted extraction, was investigated against reactive oxygen (ROS) and nitrogen (RNS) species, namely sup… Show more

“…Xanthine oxidase is responsible for catalyzing the xanthine and xanthine oxidase reaction systems in the organism, leading to the production of superoxide anion radicals. 31 These results imply that the DK-pGEL hydrogel has the potential to attenuate or delay the progression of reactive species associated with oxidative stress in vitro. At lower concentrations, DK 10 -pGEL exhibited a higher efficacy in scavenging free radicals within the body.…”

“…This effect could be attributed to the ability of KAE to capture O 2 •– radicals or to inhibit the enzyme xanthine oxidase. As ervas têm sido usadas com o objetivo de favorecer a subsistência do ambiente e a presciência de doenças, além de ajudar a melhorar o bem-estar animal (SIQUEIRA, 2019). Na maioria dos casos, as propriedades curativas das plantas estão relacionadas à sua atividade antioxidante (SÜNTAR et al, 2012).…”
