The article is devoted to the process study of grain separation on a double-sieved separator with cylindrical shaker screens with improved orienting activity using the planned experiment. Grain cleaning is a matter of pressing concern for agricultural production, because with the increased weed infestation, the load on the machines of grain post-harvesting has increased. This article presents the elements of the planned experiment processing. The regression equation adequate at the 5% significance level is obtained. The dependences of the qualitative characteristics of the sieve boot -the completeness of the separation from the variable parameters: the specific load on the working elements, the angle of inclination of the sieve holes and the oscillation frequency of the working elements are constructed. The interpretation of the processes occurring during the grain material movement on the perforated area is given. Rational design and operational parameters of the separator intensifying the separation process are determined. Conclusions on the study results are formulated.

The use of native plants for arid land restoration requires the application of pre‐germination treatments to alleviate seed dormancy mechanisms. As it is known, scarification allows several valuable species to overcome the primary forms of dormancy. However, supplying large quantities of scarified seeds at a low cost represents a significant challenge. In this context, our objective was to evaluate locally constructed machines accessible to people of degraded lands in a state of poverty. The effectiveness was evaluated by comparing two native shrubs from South American arid lands, Larrea divaricata and L. cuneifolia. Four treatments were applied: control (T0), mechanical scarification with a hand drill equipped with sandpaper on its head (T1), and mechanical scarification for 15 seconds (T2) and 30 seconds (T3) with a self‐constructed machine, capable of regulating pressure and speed. For both species, the germination probability was higher with T2 (0.82 ± 0.02) compared to T0 (0.28 ± 0.03) and T1 (0.65 ± 0.03). T3 presented intermediate values (0.75 ± 0.03) but did not differ significantly from T1 and T2. Our results show the effectiveness of a locally constructed seed scarification tool to upscale seed‐based restoration in arid lands.

Eastern galega (Galega orientalis) contains amino acids and vitamins necessary for the normal functioning of the animal organism. In addition, it is a good precursor to many cultures. One of the drawbacks of Eastern galega is the hard shell of the seeds, which leads to increased seed consumption, a prolonged time of seedlings and an irrevocable loss of part of the sown seeds. The most affordable, simple and productive is the mechanical method of violating the tightness of the coating film of seeds. The aim of the study was to conduct comparative experiments with the existing scarifier, to create an improved design of a disk scarifier, which allows to improve the quality of seed treatment, and the theoretical justification of its structural and technological parameters. The original design of the disk scarifier on the seeds of the Eastern galega was investigated. The working bodies of the blades of the scarifier disc and their changing installation angle allows to adjust the contact angle of the seeds with the abrasive surface of the grinding wheel, thereby scratching the hard shell of the seeds without injuring them. In contrast to the used designs of scarifiers, the device under development provides for a pneumatic system for removing dust and impurities from the abrasive surface of the grinding wheel by the air flow and additional seed treatment with the microbiological preparation rhisotorfin. In the study of qualitative indicators of scarification of Eastern galega at an average moisture content of 9%, the following parameters were determined: seed germination,%; the degree of scarification,% and the degree of crushing of seeds,% with disk rotation modes - 700, 900, 1100, 1300, 1500 rpm. The studies have shown high-quality seed treatment compared to its counterpart. In the recommended range of disk revolutions of 900 ... 1100, the proposed scarifier showed a decrease in the degree of crushing of seeds by 0.2 ... 0.4%, an increase in the degree of scarification by 2 ... 3% and the degree of germination by 4 ... 5%. The use of the developed design of the scarifier in international practice will reduce the damage of the treated seeds and increase the yield of legumes.
