ScapeGoat: Spotting abnormal resource usage in component-based reconfigurable software systems

Abstract: Modern component frameworks support continuous deployment and simultaneous execution of multiple software components on top of the same virtual machine. However, isolation between the various components is limited. A faulty version of any one of the software components can compromise the whole system by consuming all available resources. In this paper, we address the problem of efficiently identifying faulty software components running simultaneously in a single virtual machine. Current solutions that perform … Show more

“…Therefore, the requirement management process becomes more complicated during component specification and prioritization activities. In CBSD, proper and correct integration of components play a significant role, whereas, neglecting components, improper integration, and wrong interaction behavior of components, particularly in complex and configurable systems results in system failure [2,14,18,[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28].…”

“…The work of Gonzalez-Herrera et al (2016) consists of offering a monitoring system built on top of a distributed environment dedicated to component based software development. In order to ensure an efficient monitoring, the authors propose to perform justin-time monitoring that decreases the accumulated overhead of the monitoring system.…”

“…The application's sensitivity to reduced resource availability is measured by observing the effect of interference on application performance. The paper [5] proposed an optimistic adaptive monitoring system to determine the faulty components of an application. Suspected components are finely analyzed by the monitoring system, but only when required.…”
