Scaling Properties of the Mean Multiplicity and Pseudorapidity Density in e−+e+, e±+p, p( p ¯ )+p, p+A and A+A(B) Collisions

Abstract: The charged-particle pseudorapidity density (dN ch /dη) for p(p)+p, p+A and A+A(B) collisions and the mean multiplicity N ch for e − +e + , e ± +p, and p(p)+p collisions are studied for a wide range of beam energies ( √ s). Characteristic scaling patterns are observed for both dN ch /dη and N ch , consistent with a thermal particle production mechanism for the bulk of the soft particles created in all of these systems. The scaling patterns found also validate an essential role for quark participants in these c… Show more

“…In this model, the initial sources are the wounded quarks, moving forward or backward, according to the motion of their parent nucleons from nuclei A and B. An advantage of using the wounded quarks compared to wounded nucleons [70] is that one obtains proper scaling [13,[87][88][89][90][91] of the multiplicities on the number of participants with no need for the binary-collision component [71]. The event-byevent distribution of wounded quarks in the transverse plane is obtained from the Glauber simulations with GLISSANDO [92,93], corresponding the transverse location of the wounded quarks.…”

“…8. The second observation is that the same parameters: T cep ∼ 165MeV and µ cep B ∼ 95MeV will work for recent STAR measurements of the excitation function for the moment products S σ and κσ 2 of the event-by-event net-proton multiplicity distributions [41]. The data for 7 centrality bins will also collapse onto a single curve in the FSS scaled variables.…”

“…The data for 7 centrality bins will also collapse onto a single curve in the FSS scaled variables. The change in parameter of µ cep B from 95 MeV to 205 MeV will break the scaling for S σ and κσ 2 [41].…”
