Abstract:Passive acoustic metamaterials are constrained in their achievable properties and ability to integrate into realizable devices by unwanted property coupling, narrowband resonance, high loss, and challenges of fabrication. These limitations can be overcome by instead employing active components, such as speakers and microphones, to generate the desired acoustic response. We have developed an approach to designing scalable active metamaterials that allows for each unit cell to be of identical hardware and indepe… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
