“…Not all items were relevant to all students with disabilities, as some were not available in their universities and others were irrelevant to certain students with disabilities. We developed 34 items based on numerous disability studies (King et al, 2010; Samson, 2011; Singh, 2003; Vick and Lightman, 2010; Wilson et al, 2000), and inter-item consistency analysis for all showed a high Cronbach’s alpha of 0.973 (Table 1).…”

“…Although the concept of disability is gradually complexifying and requires interdisciplinary understanding (Korbel et al, 2011; Taylor, 2011), physical, academic and social accessibility are three commonly examined dimensions in HEIs concerning students with disabilities (Koulikourdi, 2008; Singh, 2003). Physical accessibility is of particular concern among the three dimensions, as it is a basic necessity (Peel and Posas, 2009; Samson, 2011; Singh, 2003; Wilson et al, 2000).…”

“…Managing transition to university can have a significant impact in other aspects of the life of students with disabilities. A successful transition experience can improve socialisation skills and expand personal social networks (Getzel & Wehman, 2005) or increase the chances of obtaining employment and gaining an income (Gilmore, Bose, & Hart, 2001;Wilson, Getzel, & Brown, 2000). Thus, in managing transition to university the students are not only more likely to succeed in their goal of obtaining a degree but also to become independent members of society.…”
