SARS-CoV-2 Molecular and Phylogenetic analysis in COVID-19 patients: A preliminary report from Iran

Abstract: Background The aim of the current study was to investigate and track the SARS-CoV-2 in Iranian Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients using molecular and phylogenetic methods. Methods We enrolled seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 patients for the phylogenetic assessment of the SARS-CoV-2 in Iran. The nsp-2, nsp-12, and S genes were amplified using one-step RT-PCR and sequenced using Sanger sequencing method. Popular bioinformatics software were used for sequences … Show more

“…It is noteworthy mentioning that there are a few reports from UAE (49 isolates), Egypt (2 isolates), and Iran (7 isolates). However, in addition to the small number of samples used, these studies are based on the phylogenetic analysis only and no association with epidemiological surveillance was performed ( Tabibzadeh et al, 2020 , Tayoun et al, 2020 , Kandeil et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) was rst identi ed in China and then spread to the rest of other countries. World Health Organization (WHO) announced a global alarm called COVID-19 for the disease [1]. The recent Situation Report (14 Dec 2020) of a total of 71,051,805 con rmed cases, 1,608,648 have died, and there are 574,969 new cases per day and 8,726 new deaths.…”

“…have been efficaciously analyzed through phylogenetic study. This provides additional data for proper genomic assessment of SARS-CoV-2 ( Ray et al, 2020b ; Tabibzadeh et al, 2020 ; Satpathy, 2020 ; Joshi and Paul, 2020 ; Zhou et al, 2020 ; Lopes et al, 2020 ) ( Table 4 ).…”
