Sarcoidosis Versus Lymphoma?

Abstract: An association between lymphoma and sarcoidosis was first suggested in 1960. We report a case of sarcoidosis-lymphoma syndrome, which is a diagnostically challenging condition. We conclude that an associated lymphoma should be considered in all patients with suspected sarcoidosis, especially those who do not respond to treatment or who present with persistent haematological abnormalities. Splenomegaly should prompt splenectomy to rule out lymphoma if a less invasive approach has failed to confirm the diagnosis. Show more

“…Cases of SLRs are extensively described in literature in non-Hodgkin lymphoma at diagnosis, after systemic treatment or stem cell transplantation, and in solid cancers after treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors. 12 , 14 , 15 , 16 However, the exact pathophysiological mechanism is still unknown. The association of an interferon-γ–producing T helper 17 (Th17) T-cell subset with the occurrence of sarcoidosis after immune checkpoint inhibitors led to the hypothesis that (re)activation of CD4 Th1 cells could lead to macrophage activation, aggregation, and, thereby, induction of granuloma formation.…”
