Saosys Toolbox as Matlab Implementation in the Elastic‐plastic Analysis and Optimal Design of Steel Frame Structures

Abstract: Abstract. The improved mathematical model of steel frame structures' design is created. The loading is simple, and plastic strains are evaluated. Energy principles of deformable body mechanics and mathematical programming theory are employed. Equilibrium finite elements with interpolation functions of internal forces are used for discretization. The elements are designed using HE, IPE, RHS steel profile assortments and considering dispersion of geometrical characteristics of profile assortment sets. Optimal de… Show more

“…In the event that the reliability is higher than the target, it is possible to consider optimization with regard to economy of design. Within the scope of modelling, the notions "optimization" and "reliability" has different meaning to different people (Atkočiūnas et al 1997(Atkočiūnas et al , 2008Merkevičiūtė, Atkočiūnas 2006;Šešok et al 2010;Jankovski and Atkočiūnas 2010). With the development of conceptions of the numerical analysis of advanced structures Juozapaitis, Norkus 2007;Juozapaitis et al 2008Juozapaitis et al , 2010, these procedures can contribute to a qualitative improvement of the reliability analysis of structures.…”

“…− an exact estimation of the load distribution is significant in many engineering applications (Lazzari et al 2009) as an example for optimisation problems; this allows to use materials taking into account structural reliability and to solve design problems at a higher level by using plastic deformations in case of variable loads (Jankovski, Atkočiūnas 2010, 2011Atkočiūnas, Venskus 2011).…”

“…Modern commercial programs of structure analysis widely used for design include nonlinear calculation subprograms and calculation kernels. Mathematical computation packages have been also developed, and thus enable us to solve various high-level mathematical problems one of which is associated with the analysis of geometrically nonlinear elastic-plastic space structures and can be solved by using the possibilities provided by computation packages (Jankovski, Atkočiūnas 2010;MathWorks Inc. 2010).…”
