Sanhuang Xiexin decoction promotes good functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke

Abstract: ObjectivesTo explore the efficiency and safety of Sanhuang Xiexin decoction in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients after endovascular intervention examination.MethodsIn this prospective observational study, 121 AIS patients admitted in our hospital were enrolled from January 2012 to December 2015. They were randomly divided into two groups, 61 patients received Sanhuang Xiexin decoction + basic treatment (SX group) and 60 patients received basic treatment (control group). The prescription of … Show more

“…It is widely used for the treatment of inflammation and fever of animals. Published literature has indicated that the San-Huang Xiexin decoction promotes good functional outcomes for acute ischemic strokes [40]. Several other plants were found to be popular as veterinary medicines in the area investigated, based on their high URs, including Tetradium ruticarpum, Verbena officinalis, Ardisia crispa, Xanthium sibiricum, Perilla frutescens, Fallopia multiflora, Blumea balsamifera, Paris polyphylla, Andrographis paniculata, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis.…”

“…Due to the unsatisfactory effectiveness of basic treatment with Western medicine (WM) on AIS [ 23 ], including drugs for antiplatelet (Aspirin, Clopidogrel), lowering lipid (Statins), and improving circulation (Edaravone, Alprostadil, Ureclin, and Butylphthalide), people engage in developing new drugs targeting on immune response to perform neuroprotective treatment on AIS patients [ 24 ] and also turn to the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM can remodel gut microbiota and downregulate inflammation [ 25 , 26 ] and has been proved to be an efficient intervention on stroke since 1999 or even earlier [ 27 , 28 ].…”

“…14,15 Modern pharmacological studies have found that SXD has a lot of bioactivities including anti-inammatory, 16 anti-oxidative, 17 antidiabetics, 18 anti-hypertension and anti-hyperlipidemia, 19 anti-atherogenic 20 and anti-cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury activities. 21 According to our preliminary experiment, SXD also had obvious uncoupling activity of nNOS-PSD-95. However, it is a time-consuming and laborious task to discover and capture powerful uncouplers from SXD due to its complicated chemical composition.…”
