Improvements in dioxin abatement strategies at a municipal waste management plant in Barcelona

“…This work presents the results of the studies carried out to provide data on dioxin emission control and the survey programme aimed at reducing PCDD/PCDF emissions to comply with the limit of 0.1 ng I-TEQ/N m 3 (Council Directive 76/2000/EC) in the MWI plant located in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona, Spain). The plant receives around 250,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year, and 1% of this amount is non-infectious hospital-type municipal waste [24]. The Spittelau incinerator has a relatively low environmental impact due to the installation of high-efficiency flue gas treatment systems, which is involved with the high operating and investment costs of these treatment stages.…”
