Salvianolic acid B protects against lipopolysaccharide-induced behavioral deficits and neuroinflammatory response: involvement of autophagy and NLRP3 inflammasome

Abstract: BackgroundThe NLRP3 inflammasome activation and neuroinflammation are known to be involved in the pathology of depression, whereas autophagy has multiple effects on immunity, which is partly mediated by the regulation of inflammasome and clearance of proinflammatory cytokines. Given the emerging evidence that autophagy dysfunction plays an essential role in depression, it is very likely that autophagy may interact with the inflammatory process in the development and treatment of depression. Salvianolic acid B … Show more

“…SalA and SalB have been observed to possess a defensive effect against pathological disorders owing to their antioxidative activities [36,56,57]. SalA and SalB also exerted the therapeutic effects via the inhibition of inflam-matory response [58][59][60][61]. What's more, according to the recent pharmacological studies, SalA and SalB have shown potential therapeutic approaches against ischemic diseases.…”

“…These results suggest that SCFAs protect intestinal barrier function from the disruption by LPS in Caco-2 monolayers. [26,27], therefore, we further investigated autophagy in the present study. Microtubule-associated protein light chain (LC3), which is lipidated and incorporated into the autophagosomal membrane, is widely used as a marker for autophagy [15].…”
