Salvage combination chemotherapy with 5‐fluorouracil and actinomycin D for patients with refractory, high‐risk gestational trophoblastic tumors

Abstract: Arc‐shaped helicate units are readily prepared from simple pyridylimine ligands. The arc‐shaped topography controls their aggregation and a four‐unit circular array of 2.5 nm diameter results (see scheme).

“…All patients were treated using several combination chemotherapies, such as the MEA regimen, 2 EMA/CO regimen, 3 FA regimen, 9 and other regimens. Response to the chemotherapy was assessed by twice weekly measurement of serum hCG level until it reached a normal level (G1 mIU/mL).…”

“…However, the pregnancy was proven to be a complete hydatidiform mole and the patient underwent a hysterectomy. She was diagnosed with low-risk GTN after 3 months (WHO stage: score, I:0) (1) and received three courses of chemotherapy with methotrexate (20 mg/m 2 body surface, days [1][2][3][4][5]. The level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) increased 2 years after remission of low-risk GTN and examination of a bronchoscopic biopsy of the lung pathologically confirmed choriocarcinoma.…”

“…Etoposide, methotrexate, actinomycin D, cyclophosphamide and vincristine (EMA/CO) (3) and methotrexate, etoposide and actinomycin D (MEA) (2) are used as first-line regimens, with an effectiveness rate of ~80%. Etoposide, cisplatin, methotrexate and actinomycin D (EP/EMA) (4), fluorouracil and actinomycin D (FA) (5) and paclitaxel, cisplatin and etoposide (TP/TE) (6) have been reported as second-or third-line regimens.…”

“…Only two publications mentioned this regimen (Matsui et al, 2002;Zhao et al,2009.). The first one was published by the Japanese authors who reported the response of 5 FU plus Act D in ten resistant GTN patients.…”

“…Efforts continue to identify new agents or new combinations effective in treating resistant disease. Matsui et al (2002) reported that 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in combination with Actinomycin D (Act D) induced remission in nine of eleven (82%) patients who were resistant to the first line regimen with acceptable toxicity. Nevertheless, this regimen is not utilized worldwide in many countries, especially in Thailand ,and the efficacy with recurrence after receiving multiple chemotherapy regimens is unclear.…”
