“…Questionnaire data obtained from the adolescents again confirmed the important role of individual strategies mediating the effects of trauma exposure on mental and physical health. While we could replicate the inverse associations of SoC with traumatic stress and its sequelae already well documented for adolescents (Braun‐Lewensohn et al, ), we are the first to show matching associations for HCC. Our data reveal that, in individuals with a likely diagnosis of PTSD according to the UCLA PTSD Reaction Index, lower SoC is associated with higher HCC and vice versa.…”

“…Importantly, the presented data, due to their cross‐sectional character, cannot provide any insight into the directions of the reported associations. Current literature points toward a bidirectional link between SoC and adversities, with the level of SoC modulating the strength of negative life events’ sequelae, but also the number and severity of negative experiences modulating the extent of SoC (Braun‐Lewensohn et al, ). Further studies suited to address this directionality, as well as the fact that in our data SoC seems to play a role only in PTSD and not in trauma exposure per se, are necessary.…”

“…Some authors have emphasized that SOC may present a certain stability as from 15-16 years of age, and may therefore, contribute to the mediation of stressor factors during adolescence 15,16 . Evidences have shown that high SOC levels were associated with reduction in stress and decrease in the internalizing and externalizing problems experienced by adolescents in this stage of psychological and cognitive changes in their individual lives 17 .…”

“…Research on salutogenesis by Cederblad and Hansson () and by Eriksson and Lindström () found that SOC among adults correlated positively with quality of life, defined as the general standard of wellbeing, that is health, family education, and happiness among individuals and groups. In adolescents, SOC has been considered a possible resource in a variety of stressful situations (Braun‐Lewensohn, Idan, Lindström, & Margali, ). However, a salutogenic treatment model has not been extensively studied in child and adolescent psychiatry settings.…”
