“…In addition, the detection competence of the SRCA assay was greater than the recently developed Salmonella PSR assay with the detection limit of 4 9 10 3 and 4 CFU per gram without enrichment and after 6-h enrichment, respectively (Momin et al 2020). Previously published SRCA assays to detect Shigella in artificially spiked vegetable salad and S. aureus in milk reported LoDs of 47 CFU per gram and 56 CFU per ml, respectively without enrichment, which are in line with our study results (Wang et al 2018;Yang et al 2019). However, a recently published SRCA assay to detect Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris in spiked apple juice could detect 7Á1 CFU per ml without enrichment (Yuan et al 2020).…”

“…Moreover, the current SRCA assay had a better analytical sensitivity than the polymerase spiral reaction (PSR) assay previously developed by our group for detecting Salmonella in pork (Momin et al 2020). However, a few previous SRCA assays reported about 10 times better analytical sensitivity than our current result (70 fg) (Wang et al 2018;Yang et al 2019). Limitations notwithstanding, our SRCA assay and all other SRCA assays till date revealed 100-fold higher sensitivity than conventional PCR and 10-fold higher sensitivity than real-time PCR assays (Wang et al 2018;Yang et al 2019;Zhang et al 2019;Yuan et al 2020;Milton et al 2021b).…”

“…fection by expressing a number of toxic factors, cell wall-related adecines and secreted exoproteins [2]. Therefore, monitoring of S. aureus in a dairy environment with high sensitivity is very important for ensuring milk quality and food safety [3].…”
