“…The concentrations observed for all the CCGFs from three different samples in this work cannot be compared with the published data for several reasons: (a) not enough published data is available to compare all 48 CCGFs studied in this work; (b) only limited data is available on the concentrations of some CCGFs measured from multiple body fluids of the same subjects; (c) various techniques were used in each report and there may be some sensitivity differences between techniques; and (d) age, gender and ethnicity differences between subjects in various reports. Nevertheless, the concentrations obtained in this work for IL-13, VEGF, IL-1beta, IL-12p70, and IL-10, MCP-1 are comparable with healthy controls as reported [18,47,53,56].…”

“…EGF was found to increase the secretion and mRNA expression of VEGF in certain cell lines in vitro [26]. Although it is not known if the same holds true for the oral mucosa, reduced salivary VEGF levels were found in acute major RAS [11]. VEGF is considered to play an essential role in the inflammation and pathogenesis of vasculitic processes [10, 26].…”

“…Immunopathogenetic studies indicate that these ulcerations might be caused by cytotoxic action of lymphocytes and monocytes on the oral epithelium with an unknown trigger. Immunologic and/or cytokine aberration leading to local tissue destruction have also been implicated [2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,11,12]. …”
