Abstract: With a ubiquitous presence in marine ecosystems, Labyrinthulomycetes protists (LP) play critical ecological roles in oceanic habitats. Recently, some LP strains have been suggested to survive in low-salinity environments, but their distribution in freshwaters was largely unknown.
