Safety stock placement with market selection under load-dependent lead times

Abstract: We study the problem of safety stock placement in a supply chain with market selection decisions. A manufacturer with deterministic, load-dependent lead time supplies multiple warehouses, each serving multiple retailers. Each retailer has access to a set of potential markets with different characteristics. Serving more markets increases revenues, but also increases the manufacturer's lead time, resulting in higher inventory costs. Adopting the Guaranteed Service Approach, we present a nonlinear mixed integer p… Show more

“…A Lagrangian relaxation-based approach is used to solve the problem, an efficient algorithm is developed for the subproblem, and computational experiments are conducted to provide managerial insights. Ghadimi et al (2023) address the problem of safety stock placement in a supply chain with market selection decisions. The study presents a model and proposes two algorithms to solve the problem, with computational experiments showing promising results.…”

“…Another deterministic model developed in [78] addressed strategic supplier selection and procurement planning, inventory management, and transportation challenges to identify the optimal timing and quantity in the manufacturing process, inventory, and transportation. On the other hand, in [84], the authors developed a deterministic model where they considered strategic supplier selection, procurement planning, manufacturing scheduling, and inventory management challenges. In another study [77], a deterministic model was developed to address manufacturing scheduling and transportation challenges.…”
