Safety of liposuction using tumescent local anesthesia

Abstract: Liposuction using tumescent local anesthesia performed by dermatologists in the ambulatory office setting has a superior safety record compared with liposuction using general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Accreditation through accreditation organizations has the potential to maximize patient safety and improve patient care. All state medical boards should consider the mandatory reporting of all major complications and fatalities.
