A study evaluating the safety of the recurrent laryngeal nerve when using the LigaSure™ during thyroidectomies showed that a distance of 2 mm from the nerve is safe for the activation of the LigaSure™ device . Despite the relative safety, the LigaSure™ can be positioned closely to the globe during ligation to ensure that injury to the proximal optic nerve does not occur, and histological interpretation of the optic nerve head will not be affected because of minimal risk for collateral damage by the LigaSure™.…”
