In many clinical trials, it has been reported that phytosterols or -stanols, when consumed over 1 g per day, induce a significant reduction of serum total cholesterol and lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentration (Law, 2000, Miettinen et al, 1995, Weststrate and Meijer, 1998, Hendriks et al, 1999and Hallikainen et al, 2000.
