Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess the effects of Sangrovit®, a standardized preparation of Macleaya cordata extract (MCE), on the health status and performance in weaned piglets. A total of 128 weaned piglets were randomly divided into four groups (n = 32, 16/sex/group) and fed either a control feed (T1) or the control feed supplemented with 100 mg/kg (T2), 500 mg/kg (T3), or 1000 mg/kg (T4) Sangrovit® (resulting in 0, 3.5, 17.5, 35 mg MCE/kg feed, respectively) for ninety days. “…results were not statistically significant between the groups. Similar body weight gain results were obtained by Zhao et al(46). Zhao et al(46) reported that the addition of 0, 3.5, 17.5, 35.0 mg of M. cordata extract per kilogram of feed for ninety days did not improve the bodyweight gain in piglets fed corn-soybean meal-based basal diets.…”

The outputs of the experiment are in accordance with previous studies ( 8 , 35 37 ) that approved M. cordata in in pig and poultry feeding without impairing their health and immune status; consumption of M. cordata in the feed at up to 1,000 mg/kg had no adverse effect on blood plasma. In contrast, both ( 31 , 38 ) approved the cholesterol lowering effect of M. cordata .…”

A Study conducted especially in piglet extract of MCE has been reported as an alternative to antibiotics with diarrhea prevention and a positive effect on immunity (Liu et al, 2016).…”
