Safe contact tracing for COVID-19: A method without privacy breach using functional encryption techniques based-on spatio-temporal trajectory data

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has spread all over the globe. In the absence of a vaccine, a small number of countries have managed to control the diffusion of viruses by early detection and early quarantine. South Korea, one of the countries which have kept the epidemics well-controlled, has opened the infected patients’ trajectory to the public. Such a reaction has been regarded as an effective method, however, serious privacy breach cases have been issued in South Korea. Furthermore, some suspected contacts have ref… Show more

“…A comparison between Figures 5,6,9,10 and Figures 7,8,11,12 shows that the MAB rates and test rates increase as the population becomes less cooperative. The reason is that with non-cooperative individuals, we are forced to use supercells to correctly detect the spread of the disease.…”

“…A comparison between Figures 5,7,9,11 and Figures 6,8,10,12 shows that as the population becomes denser, each individual is connected with more direct neighbors and therefore has a larger chance of spreading the disease. Thus, the radius of the pandemic tends to be larger.…”

“…Researchers in China identified similar challenges to those found in the US, including data privacy protection issues [ 63 ]. Some countries’ solutions to these challenges used sophisticated technological approaches to preserve privacy while benefitting from mobile phone-based surveillance [ 94 , 95 ].…”
